The 4th Wall hosted the final preview of the west coast premiere of RED HOT PATRIOT: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins. Two-time Tony and Oscar nominee Kathleen Turner amazed audiences as Molly Ivins, the brassy Texan reporter whose liberal journalism skyrocketed her to the national stage. This acclaimed one-woman show captures the red-headed reporter’s indomitable character by weaving personal anecdotes with her colorful take on national politics. The 4th Wall hosted the first preview of the west coast premiere of NEXT FALL. This 2010 Tony and Drama Desk nominated play about an unlikely gay couple riveted audiences. Debates about faith, sexuality and family came alive after an all-star cast, including Betsy Brandt, James Wolk and Lesley Ann Warren delivered powerhouse performances. This 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist about pro-wrestling was the first play in the Geffen’s 2011-2012 season. It slams together thrilling spectacle, incredible characters and geopolitical allegory into an invigorating theatrical experience you can’t find on pay-per-view. The 4th Wall hosted a fantastic first preview of SUPERIOR DONUTS at The Geffen Playhouse – in fact it was our largest and fast-selling event to date. This touching and hilarious piece of work from Tracy Letts (playwright, AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY) and Geffen Artistic Director Randall Arney (director, THE FEMALE OF THE SPECIES, THE SEAFARER) tells the story of unlikely friendships in one of Chicago’s most diverse neighborhoods. Gary Cole (OFFICE SPACE, DODGEBALL) joined a host of known film and theater actors including Edi Gathegi (TWILIGHT), Ron Bottitta (Cormac McCarthy’s THE SUNSET LIMITED) and Kathryn Joosten (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES). Thanks to Gelson’s for providing the food for the after-party, and to all those who came out to experience this one-of-a-kind play.

While this provocative new Geffen commission is laced with sex, bad language and nudity, don’t expect some bawdy farce from this Emmy and Ovation Award winning playwright. This sexually charged roller coaster ride takes us down a path of unexpected thoughtfulness and depth that asks the question: How far are you willing to go to prove your open-mindedness?

The 4th Wall was thrilled to support the first preview of Jane Anderson’s world premiere, Geffen-commissioned play, THE ESCORT. Cast members Polly Draper, Maggie Siff, James Eckhouse and Gabriel Sunday joined guests for food and drinks following the performance. Thanks to Gelson’s, as always, for their great after-party edibles. A special thanks as well to Jane Anderson who entertained questions about the show, and its dark, risque subject matter.

Neil LaBute’s Break Of Noon

The 4th Wall had a great fourth collaboration with world-famous playwright Neil LaBute. Cast members Tracee Chimo and John Earl Jelks joined guests following the first preview of the world premiere co-production of THE BREAK OF NOON. Thanks to Gelson’s for catering the after-party. It’s always special to present one of LaBute’s shows, as the audience always comes out wanting to talk about what they witnessed, and this was no exception.
